"27th Letter" Project
A set of posters featuring three new letters of the alphabet.
Overview
For a course on typography, we were tasked with creating the "27th letter" of the alphabet. This involved deeply studying letterforms and the structure of a letter to create letters that looked like they could be real, functioning letters of the English alphabet. Lastly, we had to give them a name and a place in the alphabet.
We then had to create posters for each letter, where our letters were "intertwined" with the background in some way.
Approach
After studying letterforms, I created three new letters of the alphabet. I chose a simple serif font that included some flourishes and decorative elements. I aimed to make my letters realistic, yet unique and different in an elegant way.
For my posters, I chose to use nature and trees as my inspiration and focus. I wanted the letters to feel real, as if they were actually in the scene. Using photoshop, I made the letters 3D, and added textures. I made them interact with the trees by intertwining them between the branches.
