Museum Mixup
A board game centered around famous works of art.
Overview
Museum Mixup is a board game centered around famous works of art. Players take on the role of curators at an art museum, where the titles for every work of art are lost. Using word magnets and a metal plaque, players must rename every work of art, weather it be accurate, intentionally funny, or absolutely random. This family-friendly game is great for anyone ages 10 and up, and even provides historical context for every artwork to encourage players to learn more about these beautiful works.
Museum Mixup was created as my Senior Capstone project during my final semester at California Baptist University, and won an "Outstanding Capstone Project" award. This award is given to those whose project displays outstanding quality, depth, and significance and leaves a lasting impact on ones community.
Museum Mixup will be launching on Kickstarter this year, and more information can be found at thehilltopgames.com.
Approach
When I decided to create a board game, I was immediately drawn to creating one that radiated elegance and vintage themes. To accomplish this, I used deep greens, golden frames, ornate typography, and historical works of art. These all work together to convey a feeling of elegance and class. As someone who loves art history, it was important to me to include educational context for every artwork used; Included in the game is a booklet with every artwork and its artist, title, and date created.
